The foreign ministers from Russia and Japan met to discuss about islands under Russian control off Hokkaido. After the discussion with the Russian foreign minister, Taro Kono met the reporters where he said both nations have made it clear about the issues to overcome. Sergey Lavrov said there are also other issues related to territorial that needs to be solved.
Lavrov said President Vladimir Putin will be meeting PM Shinzo Abe at G20 summit to be held in Osaka. Kono said both had a deep discussion and revealed Tokyo’s stand on territorial issues, but Moscow sees certain things in a different view. No further details about the meeting were revealed by the two ministers.
