Kamala Harris Calls For Facebook Regulation

Kamala Harris, Democratic Presidential candidate said that Facebook Inc. needs more regulations in an interview on CNN. She also said that breaking apart the social network should be seriously considered.

According to the California senator, Facebook “has prioritized its growth over the best interests of its consumers, especially on the issue of privacy.” “There is no question in my mind that there needs to be serious regulation … There needs to be more oversight,” Harris told Jake Tapper, host of ‘State of the Union’.

She said that during her years as attorney general of California, her greater focus was on issues related to consumer privacy. Harris said. “They have not been adequately informing consumers about where they are relinquishing their privacy.”

When asked by Jake Tapper if Facebook should be broken up, Harris said: “I think we have to seriously take a look at that.”

The Presidential rivals of Harris are divided in their opinion. Elizabeth Warren feels that Facebook has to be broke up while Senator Cory Booker feels that a President should not be running after companies to break them.
