South Korean media has said that North Korea had launched two suspected short range missiles on Thursday. According to a statement from South Korea’s Joint Chief of Staffs, the two short range missiles were launched at 4:29 PM local time and had flight ranges of 260 miles and 170 miles.
The missiles were reportedly launched from Kusong in North Korea’s northwest region. North Korean state news agency KCNA reported that Kim Jong Un had overseen the launches himself as he wanted to test the military’s rapid reaction ability.
Sources say that Kim Jong Un was happy with the drill but had also stressed the need to increase the capability further. The US Department of Defense has confirmed that missiles were launched by North Korea.
South Korean President Moon Jae-in said that the recent missile launches could be an attempt by North Korea to pressurize and push forward the denuclearization dialogue to a sooner date and in the direction whey want it to go.
