India, the world’s largest democracy is in the middle of its Parliamentary Elections. Three phases of the elections have been completed and today elections will be held for 72 Parliamentary seats spread across 9 states.
States of Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Bihar and Jharkhand are voting today in what is expected to be a very important phase for the BJP. In the parliamentary elections held in 2014, the BJP had virtually swept the state of Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. This time, it faces anti-incumbency as they try to come back to power with its allies.
The recent results in the State Elections have not favored the BJP, where they lost to the opposition Congress in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Election Pundits believe that if the BJP does considerably well in this phase of the elections, the chances of it forming the government again is better.
Three more phases are to be completed after today and the election results will be declared on May 23.
