Los Angeles City Councilman Herb Wesson announced that Rodeo Road in the city will be renamed as Obama Boulevard, in honor of the former US President. Rodeo Road is a 3.5 mile residential street that borders Rancho Cinega Sports Complex park. It is here that former President Obama had held a rally on Feb 20, 2007.
This residential stretch is predominantly an African American neighborhood and it intersects with West Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. It is at this intersection that Councilman Herb Wesson will host a street festival on May 4, after Rodeo Road is renamed. The street festival will have food trucks, music performers and vendors.
The street festival opens at noon on May 4 and will include appearances by artists Doug E. Fresh, BJ the Chicago Kid Yo-Yo, and Battlecat. Wesson, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, Rep. Karen Bass (D-Los Angeles) and other city leaders will gather for the street name unveiling at 5 PM.
