Mexico to brace mother of all caravans? Activists call US misinforming to create fear

Possibly Mexico could brace a huge group of migrants from Central America in coming days and if believed to Interior Secretary Olga Sanchez Cordero it could be at least 20,000 people.

Mexican government claims to have information of a new caravan forming from Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.

However, a WhatsApp group of migrants calling to gather Saturday in El Salvador has about two hundred members. The caravan will set off for Guatemala.

Activist Irineo Mujica called it the ‘mother of all caravans.’ His group is called Pueblo Sin Fronteras and he had earlier accompanied several smaller caravans in Mexico.

He said the information of huge caravan comes from US Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen to create fear.

Releasing a statement the Mujica-led group said no evidence has been found that the new caravan would be so large as being told.

Honduran activist Bartolo Fuentes too dismissed the report of huge caravan saying it is a part of the US plan to probably justify their actions. He accompanied a large caravan in 2018.

Lately Honduras’ deputy foreign minister Nelly Jerez said, “There is no indication of such a caravan… This type of information promotes that people leave the country.”

Mexico currently seems tiring of the caravans and on the other hand not eager to anger US.

Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador said the country is doing its part in combating smuggling of immigrants.
