Representative Nancy Pelosi could be the next speaker of the House. She is confident and said to have enough support among her colleagues. She dismissed to have a threat from Ohio Democrat Representative Marcia Fudge and talked about getting the required 218 votes to win the speakership.
Lately the fight over Pelosi would become the next speaker has heated up and Fudge lately too claimed to have enough support from colleagues.
Pelosi served as the 52nd Speaker of the House between 2007 and 2011 when she made history as the first female speaker. Since 2011 she is serving as Minority Leader of the United States House of Representatives.
Earlier this year she broke the record for longest speech in the House with her stories recounted from DREAMers.
In 2008 she criticized China following a meet with Dalai Lama and called the world to denounce the country. She said, “The situation in Tibet is a challenging to the world.”
Born in Baltimore to an Italian-American family, Pelosi is married to Paul Frank in 1963 and both are parents to five children.
She is a board member of the National Organization of Italian American Women too.
