Donal Trump had officially turned down India’s invite to its 70th Republic day celebrations which will be held on January 2019. US authorities had formally communicated the decision through a letter to National Security Advisor Ajit Doval. Earlier Indian officials were confident that President Trump would accept their invite and attend the celebrations. Unfortunately, they have to look for a new guest now.
The invitation was sent in August this year. however, the decision was not taken at that time. With only three months left for the Republic Day, the regret message from the US authorities left Indian officials in a limbo. Now, they have to make a quick decision to replace Trump as their guest.
There is no clear reason as to why Donald Trump decided to turn down the invite. Also, the letter that was sent to National Security Advisor just had a regret message.
Some reports suggest the decision could be due to India’s latest $5.4 billion deal with Russia to buy five S-400 Triumf missile system which was made earlier this month (October 5).
It is to be noted that India also turned down US’s request to not buy crude oil from Iran and to zero down the imports from Tehran.
