Rajapaksa’s Cabinet Ministers to Be Sworn in Today

There are early reports that swearing in of Rajapaksa’s cabinet ministers might take place today.

Due to several conflicts in ideas and decision making, the president of Sri Lanka Maithripala Sirisena had thrown out Ranil Wickremesinghe from his Prime Minister post and decided to bring in Rajapaksa, the former prime minister of the country. As the things develop, Rajapaksa’s cabinet ministers are all set for the swearing-in ceremony today in the capital city of Colombo.

It is decided that people close to Rajapaksa will be given key posts in the ministry, this includes his Brother Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and Bandula Gunawardane, who will take up defense and finance ministry respectively.

Meanwhile, Ranil Wickremesinghe is refusing to step down from his post and leave the official residence. According to him, he can only be removed from his position by the Parliament, where his party has a clear majority. This has led to a crisis and confusion all over the country. Following the confusion, there are reports that Ranil could be arrested anytime now.

Police and army commandos are deployed throughout the country, more concentrated in the capital city of Colombo as a precautionary measure to avoid any kind of violent outbreak.
