Rep. Tulsi Gabbard announced to be kickstarting her presidential campaign Saturday from Hawaii and her highlights to include climate change, criminal justice reform and health care.
Gabbard is an Iraq War veteran and her support for Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders instead of Hillary Clinton in 2016 campaign helped her gain prominence.
However, Tulsi had drawn criticisms in 2017 when she met with Syrian dictator Bashar Al-Assad during her visit to the country and without notifying her Democratic peers.
Critics call her as Assad shill or Putin puppet.
She has sent an email to supporters writing, “Our campaign begins with aloha, and it begins in Hawaii.”
Gabbard is a Samoan-American Hindu and environmentalist. As a teenager she co-founded an environmental non-profit called Healthy Hawaii Coalition. She is the first practicing Hindu member of the US Congress and first American Samoan Congresswoman.
